About a year ago, Denny Foster from Main & Mill Brewing Company and Barrelworks had the idea of working with world renowned artist, Graig Kreindler and contacted him about licensing his paintings/color studies of Negro League baseball players in a way to raise money for the Negro LeagueBaseball Musuem and players' families. Graig was interested and got Denny in touch with Jay Caldwell who runs negroleagueshistory.com and has been actively involved in promoting the league's players and its history.
Jay then contacted Satchel Paige's family and worked with Denny to license his name and likeness for this first release. They were able to work with Bob Kendrick and the Negro League Baseball Museum, getting their approvals and working to give a portion of all sales to promote the Museum on top of the families and the negroleagueshistory.com website. Main & Mill is donating over 20% of the sales directly to the promotion of the league, the history behind the league and the players while sending checks to the families of the players themselves.
The first release will feature Satchel Paige with four unique paintings celebrating
Paige's 50th Anniversary of his Hall of Fame election from 2021. Each label is
numbered as part of a nod to the nostalgia of baseball card collecting. With
the focus being entirely on the Negro Leagues and its players, Main & Mill
brewed a style which was the predominant beer during the time period. The Negro
League Celebration Series American Style Pilsner is made with domestic 2 row
barley, a hint of flaked corn, and hopped with domestically grown Contessa to
give a light floral aroma and a unique spin on a classic style consumed at
every ballpark across the country.
